چکیده

Soil seed banks of alien plant species are sources propagules that play a crucial role in population dynamics. Studies on woody for understanding mechanisms their encroachment natural habitats. This study aimed to compare vertical distribution, density and composition formed by native Cornus sanguinea subsp. C. alba, sericea australis the Southern Hemiboreal zone Europe. Five sites each four taxa were selected study, seeds sampled using soil core method (400 samples two layers: upper, 0–5 cm, lower, 5–10 cm). Extracted tested with tetrazolium chloride stain assess viability. Differences among compared generalised linear mixed models (GLMM). The GLMM analysis revealed significant differences bank densities upper between studied (p < 0.001). We found (C. alba australis) much denser containing more viable than sanguinea. All three contained (from 40.7% 45.2% layer) (19.4% 18.2% lower layer). cover habitat type had no effect bank, according GLMM. supports hypothesis those Furthermore, Results this contribute invasiveness taxa.

Rapid and High Seed Germination and Large Soil Seed Bank of Senecio aquaticus in Managed Grassland

Senecio aquaticus, regionally a Red List species in Europe, has become increasingly abundant in agricultural grassland of medium to high management intensity in Switzerland, Southern Germany, and Austria in recent years, where it is a threat for animal and human health due to its toxicity. In this study, we investigated the seed ecology of S. aquaticus to help protection of the species in relic...

Seed mass, shape, and persistence in the soil seed bank of Israeli coastal sand dune flora

Question: Are seed mass and shape related to persistence in the soil seed bank among 54 species of the Israeli flora? Search method: Persistence was determined by soil seed bank investigations in which the fraction of non-germinated viable seeds was regarded as the persistent soil seed bank. When seedling emergence had ceased but before new seeds were shed, all soil from the upper 5 cm of 120 q...

Seed rain, soil seed bank, seed loss and regeneration of Castanopsis fargesii (Fagaceae) in a subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest

Understanding the seed rain and seed loss dynamics in the natural condition has important significance for revealing the natural regeneration mechanisms. We conducted a 3-year field observation on seed rain, seed loss and natural regeneration of Castanopsis fargesii Franch., a dominant tree species in evergreen broad-leaved forests in Dujiangyan, southwestern China. The results showed that: (1)...
